Case Study: Bar Douro

Bar Duoro are a Portuguese restaurant with two branches; one in Liverpool St/City, and another in the London Bridge neighbourhood of South East London.

The restaurant was founded by Max Graham of Churchill’s Vineyards. With two centuries of growing and producing wine in the Douro Valley of Portugal, Max came to London initially to do a Port Popup on Greek Street in 2014 and was amazed at how there wasn’t any representation for Portuguese cuisine at the same level at Barrafina does to Spanish cuisine.

Based in my hometown of Lewes, East Sussex and within a local area that has a creative and vibrant scene, with many independent businesses - the town is a hotspot of visitors all year round.

Fork Lewes is a neighbourhood restaurant that originally opened in 2021, with the business creating a place for itself in the town and as the place to go for contemporary spins on British classics. They’re also big on using local produce from the rich selection of producers and suppliers in the county.

Case Study: Mr Falafel

Mr Falafel are a family-owned restaurant located at the entrance of the New Shepherd's Market. Trading for 25-years, they first started out by selling one type of wrap, and now having moved to a larger unit, have a strong local reputation for great vegan falafel wraps, and bringing authentic Pastastinian flavours to the people of London.

Keeping true to their roots and maintaining a core menu of popular falafel wraps, they’ve expanded their menu with side dishes, and dips over the years, and frequently have a queue running outside of the door during the day.

They are known for their authentic flavours, they bring home-cooked flavours from their home of Sri Lanka and India to their menu. They offer a wide selection of classics and traditional dishes - cooked on charcoals with Naan breads freshly made in the Tandoor to elevate their flavours.

Case Study: Spot The Wing

Spot The Wing are a newly opened fast food restaurant in Harlesden, North West London. They specialise in Buffalo-style wings, with a wide offering of menu items, and a range of seven sauces to select for every wing or chicken base, with a selections of sides and desserts also being available.

They reached out to me when looking for a food photographer to capture menu food photography of their core sellers on their menu, including wings, fried chicken, and sides.

Project: Our Table - Matt at Hot Wood Pizza

Continuing from my first personal restaurant photography project shoot for Our Table with Dean Parker at Darby’s - this shoot is further afield than the usual reaches of the project, but keeps to the essence of it; capturing places that I’ve loved eating at, and for the passion that goes into the process.

Just as I was finishing up the brief for my ‘Our Table’ project at the end of May, I booked a last-min staycation to the East Coast town of Westgate-on-Sea for a bit of seaside R&R with my partner. We found a really lovely Airbnb called Hot Wood House that was both right next to the sea, and also had an unbelievable attention to detail put into the interior design.
