Case Study: Thackerys Cookery School
Brief.
Located in the East Sussex county town of Lewes, Thackerys are a cookery school based in an open-plan converted 350-year-old home. With a rich background as a classically trained chef, owner Graham has a hands-on approach to teaching groups of up to four; with the students having a bespoke menu created around their own tastes and what they’d like to technically learn.
Having worked with Graham to produce a content library in 2016 - I was briefed to work with Thackerys to capture a collection of food photography heroes and a series of storytelling content for their new website and for a refresh of their content archive. This was to be used across their website, on social, and for digital advertising.
Approach.
Having worked with them before and knowing their brand story, I started by working with Graham to produce visual concepts and mood-boards that would complement his developed recipes to be captured as a collection of food photographs.
Using a selection in-house props and a collection of bespoke backgrounds that I produced for these with the cookery school - I additionally sourced props from the great local flea markets to thematically tie in with each recipe. This heavy pre-production approach of shooting in-kitchen and on-set allowed Graham and I to seamlessly worked through the call sheet to cook delicious food and to capture the shots from the call sheet.
As part of an updated look and 2020 rebrand, this content is being used throughout their social touchpoints and website.
