Case Study: Fat Choy Canteen - Menu Food Photography

Brief.
Fat Choy Canteen are a London based kitchen that create Taiwanese confort food inspired by their home. As a popular business for Londoners, inscluding Taiwanese and Chinese ex-pats, they reached out to me.
The client wanted a fresh library of imacftul menu food photography that would perform well across delivery platforms (Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Hungry Panda), while also giving them a strong hero banner shot for each platform.
They needed each dish to look authentiuc, vibrant, and true to their in-venue experience, even when viewed on a small phone screen. For this, I suggested a 1/2 day session.
Approach.
I planned the 1/2 day session to focus our time on capturing their updated menu food photography and seasonal offerings, later moving on to lifestyle food photography at the end of the session.
The style of the shoot was to remain on-brand, with large soft studio lighting used, alongside natural-feeling props that I suggested to the client and warm feeling textured food photography backgrounds.
The team were advised on food styling tips to make their menu items look the most impactful and recognisable on platforms.
As it was being used across multiple platforms, the food photography was shot for each platform’s guidelines.
The session went really smoothly and the owner loved their new food photography!
