Case Study: Din Tai Fung

Brief.

Din Tai Fung are an internationally renowned Taiwanese restaurant brand, famous for its delicate Xiao Long Bao and handmade dumplings.

As a returning client, they invited me to their Canary Wharf restaurant for a half-day lifestyle food photography booking.

The focus was to promote their Mid-Autumn Festival Special Pumpkin Buns with Baijiu Chrysanthemum Cocktail, their signature Chocolate Mochi Xiao Long Bao, and their Selfridges Exclusive Tasting Menu.

The aim was to produce a collection of impactful for photography for digital marketing campaigns, table talkers, website updates and press.

Approach.

Ahead of the session, I caught up with the team provided my restaurant food photography guidelines as well as a session plan to efficiently use our time.

During the session, we worked through each of the two core campaign hero images, followed by more interactive lifestyle imagery - showing context and movement, including dipping and sharing items.

Larger lifestyle dining scenes were created for the Selfridges Exclusive Tasting Menu - using hands and chopsticks to engage with the food, to give a sense of energy and connection.

The result was a cohesive set of food photography and lifestyle images that Din Tai Fung can use across their website, social media, marketing campaigns and in-restaurant materials, giving their seasonal promotions a strong visual impact, in-venue and online.
